Dr. Hardaway grew up in Maple Valley, WA, graduated with distinction from the United States Naval Academy, and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD. After an internship in Internal Medicine at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, he completed flight training in Pensacola, FL and served as Flight Surgeon and Head of Naval Air Reserve Medicine at Naval Air Station Whidby Island, WA. Dr. Hardaway then completed residency specialty training in Ophthalmology at Naval Medical Center San Diego, CA.
Since then, Dr. Hardaway has led Ophthalmology Clinics at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, NC, Tripler Army Medical Center, HI, and Naval Hospital Bremerton, WA. He was the Force Surgeon for Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa, coordinating US military health operations throughout East Africa. He was recognized as Navy Medicine’s “Best of the Best” in patient satisfaction and served as the Chair of Medical Credentials, Chief of the Medical Staff, and Director for Surgical Services at Naval Hospital Bremerton.
After serving over 30 years in the Navy, performing thousands of eye surgeries, and attaining the rank of Captain, Dr. Hardaway retired from the Navy and joined Kitsap Eye Physicians to continue serving the Kitsap community. Dr. Hardaway specializes in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, providing medical and surgical eye treatment, including state of the art cataract surgery, with an emphasis on patient and family centered eye care. Dr. Hardaway is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and actively participates in the ABO’s Maintenance of Certification program. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the Society of Military Ophthalmologists, and the Washington Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.
